Handmade in the mystical city of Tzfat, Safed Candles has been lighting up Jewish homes for nearly two decades. Founded by a member of the Breslov Chassidic community, this small business began as a way to create meaningful employment in one of Israel’s most remote and spiritual cities.
With roots just steps from the historic Ari Ashkenazi Synagogue, the first candles were hand-dipped and woven in a modest workshop by locals committed to bringing light—both literally and spiritually—into the world. Even after a devastating fire in 2008, the team kept going, crafting in newly discovered underground rooms hidden for generations beneath their old shop.
Today, every candle is still made by hand using beeswax and environmentally friendly paraffin wax, with a deep respect for tradition and craftsmanship. From Shabbat to Hanukkah, Safed Candles are cherished by Israelis and travelers alike for their beauty, authenticity, and the story they carry from the mountaintops of Tzfat.
